11. SECURITY OF THE SOUL IS NOT A LICENSE
FOR THE FLESH TO SIN. Some sincere Christians insist the doctrine of eternal salvation is a license to live like the devil and still go to heaven. Again, confusion over the flesh (outward man) and the soul (inward man) results in error. Romans 6:1-2, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" Romans 7:22-25, "For I delight after the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Oh wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of Sin." Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." I Peter 2:11b, "...Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;" Conclusion: The inward person who has been born of God is a new creature, and DOES NOT DESIRE to fulfill the lusts of the flesh, but strives to suppress and control fleshly desires and lusts, and is grieved when the flesh prevails. The individual whose spiritual nature desires to satisfy the sins of the flesh, does not have a new nature and has never been born of God! |
