PROOF GOD'S WORD IS TRUE

Here are just some of the facts that prove God’s Word is true.

I.                    Science Proves the Bible

A.     Science proved Job 26:7, that the earth “hung upon nothing” during the 1600’s. It was previously thought that the earth sat upon an animal, or upon the shoulders of a god, or was suspended by something.

B.     The voyage of Christopher Columbus proved Isaiah 40:22, that the earth was a “circle”.

C.     Matthew Maury, the father of oceanography, read Psalm 8:8 which referred to the “paths of the sea”. He set out to find these paths and discovered the warm and cold continental currents. His book on oceanography which was written during the 1800’s is still used in universities today.

D.     Science eventually agreed with Psalm 102:25-26 that the world will “wax old like a garment”, with its Second Law of Thermodynamics.

E.      During the 1600’s, science discovered the water cycle and proved Ecclesiastes 1:7 “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.”

F.      Science has discovered that 85% of the rock which covers the earth is sedimentary, indicating that some time in the past, the world was covered by water. The book of Genesis tells us that God punished the earth with a world wide flood.

G.     Science has recently proved within the last 200 years Leviticus 17:11 that “the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Previous to this discovery, sick men were bled and many died on account of this practice.

II.                 History Proves the Bible

A.     History has proved all of the prophecies concerning the Messiah that would be “cut off” prior to the destruction of Jerusalem’s temple. (Daniel 9:26)

1.      Micah 5:2 claimed that he would be born in Bethlehem.

2.      Isaiah 7:14 said that he would be born of a virgin.

3.      Zechariah 11:12-13 states that he would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver.

4.      Isaiah 53:9 claimed that he would be buried in a rich man’s tomb.

B.     In Matthew 24:2 Jesus Himself prophesied the destruction of the temple stating that not one stone would be left upon another. Forty years after Jesus died, the temple was completely leveled and no two stones were left standing on one another.

C.     History has proved God’s promise in Genesis 17:6 that Abraham’s descendants would become a great nation. At the time of this promise, Abraham was 99 years old, Sarah was 89 and they had no children together. Abraham did have a child and his descendants became the nation of Israel.

III.               Astronomy Proves the Bible

A.     When he invented the telescope, Galileo proved Jeremiah 33:22 which says that “the host of the heaven cannot be numbered”. Before Galileo’s time, scientists believed the star count to be about 1,100

B.     Psalm 19:6 states that the sun’s “going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it”. In the past skeptical scientists claimed this verse was saying that the sun moved around the earth and was therefore an old myth. Scientists have recently discovered that the sun is in fact moving at a speed of 600,000 miles per hour. The circuit of the sun is so large that it would take 200 million years for the sun to make one orbit.

C.     The discovery made during the fourteen hundreds that the earth rotated and that night occurred on one part of the planet while day occurred on another part proved Luke 17:24-36. This passage refers to the second coming of Christ and says that when he comes, some people will be sleeping at night while others will be working in the fields during the day.

IV.              Archaeology Proves the Bible

A.     Some scholars claim that Jesus is a myth and never existed. Archeology has discovered other documents referring to Jesus. These writers include Flavius Josephus (AD 93), the Babylonian Talmud (AD 70-200), Pliny the Younger’s letter to Emperor Trajan (AD 100), the Annals of Taticus (AD 115-117), and Suetonius’ Life of Claudius and Life of Nero.

B.     The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1949 proved the accuracy of God’s Word. These scrolls dated back to 300 B.C. and contained the whole book of Isaiah and parts of every O.T. book except for Esther. The only difference between these manuscripts and the Bible we hold today are minor issues such as punctuation and spelling. This also proves that the prophecies concerning Jesus were written before He was born.

C.     In the past, skeptics claimed that King David never existed because no historical documents could be found concerning his reign. In 1993 archeology discovered a stone containing the inscriptions ‘House of David” and “King of Israel”. Time Magazine wrote in 1995 that “the skeptic’s claim that David never existed is now hard to defend”.

D.     Skeptics have also claimed that Romans never used nails when crucifying a man on the cross. Recently a skeleton has been found of a man who was crucified about 65 AD, and a nail was driven through his wrist.

E.      The Bible contains more than 40 passages referring to the Hittite nation. Before 1905, scholars claimed the Bible was in error because no historical or archeological data could be found concerning the Hittites. They were silenced when Hugo Winckler discovered a library in 1906 which documented the entire history of the Hittite nation.

F.      A director of the Standard Oil Company had been reading Exodus chapter 2 which gives the account of Israel’s slavery in Egypt. He read about Moses’ mother putting Moses in a basket and daubing it with pitch before setting it in the river. The director knew that if there was pitch, then there was also oil. The company sent out Charles Whitshott to search for oil in Egypt. Oil was soon discovered.

V.                 Christian’s Lives Prove the Bible.

A.     The most important proof of God’s Word is the change in a person’s life who truly gets saved.

B.     People can scoff at the evidence, but they can’t scoff at the changed life of a true believer.

C.     Christians are the greatest proof for God’s Word, so make your decisions accordingly.
